Black Ice Dog Sledding

I met my first Alaskan Malamute when just nine years old and I knew that would be the dog for me someday. It was many years later when my husband David and I began our search for the right dog. Together we built a well-known working dog kennel and started Black Ice.

David’s interest in outdoor activities led us to select Alaskan Malamutes that would have superior working ability and attitude. For many years David and I trained very successful Alaskan Malamute teams for freight racing. We also enjoyed weight pulling with our dogs and I showed many of our best dogs to their American and Canadian Championships. In our latter years we trained more for the type of work that Malamutes were meant to perform. For David winters were accented by long trips in northern Minnesota and Canada, breaking trail and camping with his team. One of his most notable trips was made into Hudson Bay by way of trapline trails.

In 1993 David appeared with a 7 dog team in the Disney film “Iron Will”. That team was led by one of our best dogs, Chase (CH Black Ice’s High Speed Chase WLDX, WTDX, WPPDX). For over three months David and the team were filmed portraying one of the lead characters, Borg. Our dogs have also appeared in numerous media projects, including a feature in Animal Planet’s “Breed All About It” production on the Alaskan Malamute.

Over the years we have strived to produce top quality dogs that could be competitive in the show ring as well as superior sled dogs. We have been members of the Alaskan Malamute Club of America since 1984. We have both served on AMCA’s Working Dog Committee and for 14 years I served on AMCA’s Board of Directors. In the late 1980’s I contacted local breeders and helped to establish our local club, the Minnesota Malamute Club. I am also a member of the Northstar Working Group Assocaition and since 2000 have expanded my involvement with dogs by becoming an AKC licensed judge.

Black Ice Dogsledding Equipment has been an important part of our lives since 1985. We enjoy helping people discover the joy of working their dogs no matter what breed they own. We strive to provide our customers with quality equipment and the help they need to make their sledding experience successful. Whether you have a large kennel of sled dogs or are just beginning your sled dog experience, we are happy to help you and your dogs have a great sledding adventure.
